A Report of Thyroid Papillary Carcinoma Concurrent with Hperthyroidism due to Graves´ Disease

Abstract

|
A case of papillary thyroid carcinoma in the presence of hyperthyroidism was studied. Previously, rarity of coexistence of two conditions was greatly emphasized and well established among the physicians. However, opinions concerning the coexistence of two conditions are changing and drawing a great deal of attention since the fast report of concurrence of both conditions in the same patient. Several investigators have found higher rate of thyroid cancer in hyperthyroidism with thyroid nodules. Because of higher potentiality of malignancy, much attention and even greater consideration should be given on patient if cold nodules were detected on the scintescan. We describe here a patient with papillary thyroid carcinoma, concomitant with hyperthyroidism due to Graves´ disease.
